Position Overview

At Melvyn’s Restaurant, tradition and timeless service meet the art of the cocktail. The Bartender is a key ambassador of our guest experience, welcoming, attentive, and effortlessly stylish. This role is responsible for preparing and serving beverages to guests at the bar and throughout the dining area with warmth, speed, and precision. The Bartender plays a vital role in maintaining the sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere of Melvyn’s, crafting memorable moments through genuine hospitality, mixology excellence, and seamless service.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet guests with genuine enthusiasm, providing personalized recommendations and anticipating guest preferences.
• Prepare, mix, and serve a full range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, maintaining high presentation and quality standards.
• Engage with guests to elevate their dining experience while ensuring Responsible Beverage Service guidelines are followed.
• Support a welcoming and refined atmosphere in line with Proper Hospitality’s elevated service standards.
• Set up and break down the bar, ensuring cleanliness, sanitation, and organization at all times.
• Restock bar inventory including liquor, mixers, glassware, and garnishes.
• Maintain bar equipment and tools in proper working order, promptly reporting any maintenance needs.
• Uphold all safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards in compliance with local health regulations.
• Communicate effectively with servers, kitchen staff, and management to ensure guest satisfaction and smooth service.
• Assist in training and mentoring new bar staff or support roles when necessary.
• Participate in team meetings and tastings to stay informed about menu updates, wine lists, and seasonal cocktails.
• Accurately process guest transactions, including opening/closing tabs and handling cash, credit, and room charges.
• Comply with all alcohol service laws and internal policies including ID verification and over-service prevention.
• Follow all property and department policies and procedures, including rest and meal breaks.
• A key requirement for this role is punctuality, including showing up on time for scheduled shifts, in uniform ready to work, and adhering to all rest and meal break standards as well as the company's attendance policy.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of bartending experience in a high-volume, upscale dining or hotel setting.
• Proven knowledge of spirits, classic and modern cocktails, beer, and wine.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a polished, professional presence.
• Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be at least 21 years of age with valid Food Handler’s Card and Responsible Beverage Service certification (as required by law).

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
• Frequent lifting and carrying of items up to 25 lbs.
• Repetitive hand and wrist motion for drink preparation and garnishing.
• Occasional bending, reaching, and stooping to access storage or assist guests.

Required Certifications

• Valid RBS (Responsible Beverage Service) certification – State of California
• Valid Riverside County Food Handler’s Card

A relaxed elegance is palpable throughout the 30 Spanish Revival rooms and suites, and on the lush lawn with pool and hot tub. The iconic dining experience of Melvyn’s restaurant and lounge completes this picturesque setting to play and escape it all.
