Essential by Christophe, a Michelin starred restaurant by Chef Christophe Bellanca, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Sommelier to join the team.

The Sommelier will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to the ongoing staff education
  • Performing wine service on the floor
  • Assisting the sommelier team in maintaining the wine cellars
  • Assisting in the curation of unique and thoughtful wine pairing experiences

This role requires exceptional knowledge of wines, a keen palate, and the ability to offer expert advice to our discerning clientele.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of sommelier experience in fine dining Michelin starred restaurants, preferred.
  • Certified Sommelier qualification (Court of Master Sommeliers, Wine & Spirit Education Trust, or equivalent).
  • Extensive knowledge of global wine regions, wine-making processes, and wine varietals, with an emphasis on French products.
  • Exceptional palate and the ability to identify and articulate subtle nuances in flavor and aroma.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing the wine cellar and inventory.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with guests and the team.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment while maintaining professionalism and composure.
  • Proficiency in using wine inventory management software and point-of-sale systems.
  • The ability to quickly retain information and memorize wine list and menu content.
  • Open availability and career driven.
Guest Service and Recommendations:
  • Provide personalized wine recommendations to guests, considering their preferences, dietary restrictions, and the dishes they have chosen.
  • Enhance the overall dining experience by creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere and engaging with guests in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Handle guest inquiries and resolve any issues related to the wine service promptly and efficiently.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform essential job functions safely and successfully consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift, balance and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time and climb steps regularly.
  • Ability to physically maneuver through work areas; bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.

Compensation:

  • $14/hour + plus tips
