Food Services Assistant I
DEFINITION
Under direct supervision, to perform routine tasks in the preparation of food; to maintain safe and sanitary preparation areas, facilities and equipment; and does other related work as assigned.
DUTIES
Loads food for delivery to schools, washes pots, pans, trays, utensils, and other equipment; assists in the cleaning of the kitchen, preparation areas, and equipment; may keep records of food and beverages sold; and makes daily reports.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Knowledge of:
- basic arithmetic and simple record keeping
- standard kitchen appliances
- sanitation, safety laws and practices
Ability to:
- lift and transport food and supplies
- understand and carry out oral and written directions quickly and efficiently
- learn and adhere to health, sanitation, safety laws and regulations
- prepare simple reports
- establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- complete requirements for food handler's certificate

Education:
- equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade

The Encinitas Union School District is seeking a Food Service Assistant I to join the Child Nutrition Services (CNS) team at Ocean Knoll Elementary School. This position will serve as a Food Services I (FS 1) and the primary role of this position will be serving lunch to students. Please see Job Description for further information. The weekly work schedule is 17.5 hours per week; Monday through Thursday, 10:15am - 1:45pm & Friday 9:15am - 12:45pm Up to 6 years of work experience in the same or comparable classification is taken into consideration for salary placement. The candidate selection process will consist of paper screening, district administered test and panel interview.
