Job Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for cleaning and setting upfor events. Repairs, installs, and maintains building fixtures andmechanical equipment. Exercises no supervision.

Work Hours
Will rotate between the following shifts:
- Shift 1 (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Wednesday - Sunday)
- Shift 2 (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday)
All schedules are subject to needed adjustments, including some evenings and weekends. Shifts are subject to change to accommodate evening coverage, rotating weekends, and holiday shiftwork based on department needs.
Essential Job Functions
- Repairs pipelines and patches leaks in hot water and steam lines; repairs leaking valves on faucets; and addresses stopped-up sinks, lavatories, and sewer lines.
- Performs carpentry work such as preparing simple concrete forms, assisting in repairing and replacing screens and doors, building benches, and assisting in rough and finish carpentry work, frequently lifting and carrying equipment or work materials 30 pounds.
- Utilizes hand and power tools to prepare, paint, and repair park benches, picnic tables, swimming pools, and other park facilities.
- Repairs broken seats and chairs. Erects or repairs wood or metal signs. Cleans floors and building fixtures.
- Performs basic electrical repairs and replaces light switches, bulbs, and ballasts.
- Finishes cement curbs, gutters, and retaining walls; patches breaks in cement work and replaces floor or ceiling tiles.
- Assists skilled craftsmen in installation, maintenance, and repair of the fire alarm and traffic signal system and climbs poles to install and repair overhead cables.
- Performs preventive maintenance for air-conditioning units.
- Changes filters and lubricates and replaces belts.
- Keeps basic records and prepares basic reports.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
- Two (2) years of general experience in building and mechanical maintenance and repair.
- Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
- May require CPR certification within one (1) year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on repairs in different trades. (Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, etc.)
Applicant Information
- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, masonry, painting, and electrical work.
- Knowledge of proper paint and varnish application techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of safe work practices, procedures, and techniques.
- Knowledge of basic electrical wiring and repairs including light switches, bulbs, and ballasts.
- Knowledge of mechanical preventive maintenance techniques, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of basic carpet and tile installation and repair procedures and techniques.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in building and mechanical maintenance and repair.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance procedures on various building equipment such as air conditioners and light fixtures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Ability to perform basic electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance and repair procedures.
- Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
- Working conditions are primarily inside with occasional work outdoors with frequent exposure to temperature extremes, dust, dirt, grease, and noise.
