POSITION: Head Cook - This position qualifies for health insurance benefits

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations or his designee

WORK HOURS: 191 Days, 8 hours per day

LOCATION: Currently at Alliance High School

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years experience in an institutional food service setting.
  • Proficient with computer software such as QSP, Excel, Word, etc. preferred.
  • Certification of good health by a licensed physician.
  • Such other health factors, as may be required by the local or state Board of Health or the State Department of Food Service.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Residence in the taxing district of Alliance City Schools is preferred.
  • Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement, supervise and participate in all of the specific performance responsibilities outlined in the cook/assistant cook job description.
  • Conforms with all state laws and regulations regarding food service and assists in the administration of all required Board of Education policies, administrative regulations and directives.
  • Assists in the recruitment, employment and assignment of food service personnel.
  • Assists in planning work schedules, and arranges for substitutes when required.
  • Assists in the organization and implementation of an orientation program for all new and existing food service employees.
  • Assists in the preparation and recommendation of the annual food service budget.
  • Assists in the purchasing and inventory of all foods, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensure proper cafeteria accounting procedures in cooperation with treasurers office.
  • Assists in planning and supervises the preparation and serving of menus at all schools.
  • Supervises the planning and preparation of any special meals required for district-sponsored events.
  • Supervises the preparation and serving of government surplus foods.
  • Helps ensure the standards of diet, cleanliness, health, and safety are being maintained in all school lunch facilities and operations.
  • Checks all food service personnel payroll documentation and submits it to the department head or designee as scheduled.
  • Checks all bills and purchase orders for accuracy before presenting them for processing.
  • Assists in applying for government surplus food for school cafeteria use, and directs its distribution and transfer.
  • Assists in the disposition of government commodities as part of the ongoing food service program.
  • Assists in preparing all required Board of Education, State and Federal reports when necessary.
  • Assists in keeping patrons and the public informed of the menus and services offered by the school cafeteria and of the health and educational benefits gained by children through participation in the school food service program.
  • Assumes responsibility for testing of food and milk to determine that specifications are being met.
  • Assists in planning all banquets served in school lunchrooms.
  • Ensures the overall safety and sanitation program in the school food service stations.
  • Receives suggestions from student groups regarding preferred foods and meals, and makes every effort to incorporate such suggestions into the food service program in a manner consistent with good nutrition standards.
  • Assumes responsibility for the inventory control and security of food and supplies.
  • Supervises the storage and care of foods and supplies.
  • Responsible for the security of revenue from cafeteria services.
  • Ensures that all equipment in the cafeteria area is in safe, working condition, and notifies the appropriate authority when repairs or replacements are needed.
  • Ensures all kitchen equipment is used in a safe and efficient manner consistent with the manufacturer and District guidelines.
  • Attends in-service or training programs as required by Board Policy, the Superintendent of Schools, or the State Department of Education.
  • Perform any additional duties, which may be assigned by the Superintendent, or his designee.
