Position Summary

Under supervision and direction, performs custodial maintenance duties, including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming floors and shampooing carpets, and cleaning and restocking bathrooms while maintaining a courteous and respectful attitude when interacting with faculty, staff, and students. Employee reports to the designated supervisor.

Duties & Responsibilities

Promote a clean, safe, comfortable, and healthy work environment

Demonstrate dedication to job performance and complete tasks as assigned

Accept direction and guidance from supervisory personnel

Adhere to work schedule

Maintain clear and concise communication with internal and external stakeholders

Promptly address any cleaning requests from building occupants, like spills, trash issues, or specific cleaning needs.

Consistently uphold high cleanliness standards

Report any potential safety hazards to the appropriate supervisor

Be flexible to adjust cleaning routines based on changing needs or unexpected situations

Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, and other work areas to meet health standards

Clean rugs and carpets and sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors

Wash windows, walls, ceilings, and woodwork

Clean restrooms and replenish restroom supplies

Empty wastebasket and transport trash and waste to disposal areas

Change light bulbs when directed

Check and secure all windows and doors when directed

Disinfect equipment and supplies

Ensure operation of equipment, tools, and materials are handled in a safe and efficient manner

Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.

Visually inspect equipment for needed repair

Immediately report damage to campus property and maintenance problems to the appropriate supervisor

May assist with snow removal and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities

Contributes to the overall success of the campus by performing all other duties as assigned

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED

Customer-service oriented

Experience in general cleaning and maintenance

Experience in using cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Ability to manage time and schedules

Ability to foster a cooperative work environment

Ability to lift and carry heavy objects

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written

Ability to complete routine paperwork

Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies

Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety rules and procedures

Ability to work with minimal supervision

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions

Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises

Must be able to remain on feet for approximately 90% of workday

Climbing multiple staircases, bending and stooping

Frequent moving and lifting up to 25 pounds

Occasionally move and lift more than 50 pounds
