Joo Ok is a contemporary Korean fine dining restaurant, which received 1 Michelin star in 2024. Led by Chef Shin Chang Ho, highly decorated and recognized for his commitment to hansik [Korean Cuisine]. Joo Ok is relocating from Seoul, Korea to NYCs Koreatown, opening this spring.

Position summary:
As an assistant sommelier, you are able to gain a deep understanding of Joo Oks service style, wine handling, pairings, and company culture. This role supports our beverage program, enhances the guest experience through thoughtful pairings, and collaborates closely with our service team in a refined, dynamic environment.

**Before assuming assistant sommelier responsibilities, this role rotate through a variety of service positions within the restaurant. This immersive experience allows developing hands-on expertise, understand the nuances of our service style, and deeply internalize the culture and values that define Joo Ok.**

Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years of dining restaurant service experience
Strong knowledge of wine, wine service, culinary concepts, and terminology
TIPS certification preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, POS systems, and restaurant management software
Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
Professional presentation aligned with company standards
Commitment to exceptional hospitality for guests and team members
Passion for hospitality, food, and beverages
Fluent in English with ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Accessible via email and phone
Detail-oriented, organized, and a collaborative team player
Ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced environments
Knowledge of workplace safety and local Department of Health regulations
Valid Food Handlers Certification or ability to obtain preferred
Familiarity with reservation and inventory management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace
Ability to execute service standards consistently
Strong interpersonal skills with effective collaboration with management and team
WSET Level 2 or CMS Intro required / Higher preferred

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($11.50) plus tips
