Job DetailsPosition Overview The Lead Bartender at ama , Kilgore Hospitality Groups flagship restaurant and lounge in the Transamerica Pyramid, is responsible for curating and executing one of San Franciscos most dynamic bar programs. As the creative force behind the beverage identity of ama, the Lead Bartender combines technical mastery with visionary leadership, ensuring the bar remains the centerpiece of the guest experience. This role is not only about exceptional cocktails, but also about building a culture of hospitality, precision, and innovation that defines amas unique restaurant-lounge environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the creation, development, and execution of the full cocktail program, including signature drinks, seasonal features, and large-format/lounge cocktails.
Partner closely with the General Manager to align the beverage program with culinary concepts, ensuring a cohesive dining and lounge experience.
Mentor, train, and manage the bartender team, instilling consistency in cocktail technique, bar presence, and guest engagement.
Maintain the bars role as the social and sensory heart of ama, curating an energetic yet refined lounge atmosphere.
Oversee ordering, inventory management, vendor relationships, and cost controls for all beverage categories (spirits, wine, beer, NA, etc.).
Ensure compliance with California alcohol service laws, health codes, and internal safety standards.
Collaborate with management on special events, activations, and offsite beverage-driven catering opportunities.
Act as a visible floor leader during service, supporting bartenders, cocktail servers, and floor staff in delivering an elevated guest experience.
Qualifications
5+ years of bartending experience with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity in a high-volume, upscale restaurant or lounge.
Proven ability to design, cost, and execute cocktail programs with both creativity and operational efficiency.
Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to elevate the performance of the bar team.
In-depth knowledge of spirits, cocktail techniques, classic and modern mixology, and beverage trends.
Excellent guest engagement skills, with the ability to create memorable, high-touch experiences for diverse clientele.
Organizational and financial management skills, including ordering, inventory, and vendor relations.
Compensation: Hourly ($25.00 - $28.00) plus tips
