Role Overview: Assistant Sommelier & Service LeadThis is a hybrid position : as Assistant Sommelier , working under and in close collaboration with the Beverage Director and Head Sommelier , while also stepping into a Service Lead role during service or in the absence of the Head Sommelier .
The position requires a balance of guest-facing wine expertise, polished fine dining service, and team leadership.
Core ResponsibilitiesDeliver refined, confident wine and food service in line with Michelin-level standards.
Present, recommend, and serve wines, including pairings and bottle selections.
Manage technical wine service: glassware, temperature, decanting, and presentation.
Assist in curating and selling wine pairings, engaging guests with passion and clarity.
Support cellar management, inventory, purchasing, and organization.
Assist with beverage list updates, staff training, and pre-service briefings.
Act as Service Lead during service or in the Head Sommeliers absence , ensuring smooth FOH/BOH communication and guest flow.
Collaborate with the FOH team to ensure seamless service across the dining room and kitchen counter.
A hospitality professional with 24 years of fine dining experience ; prior sommelier or captain experience in Michelin or top-tier restaurants strongly preferred.
Certified by CMS, WSET, or equivalent (or actively pursuing certification).
Very Knowledgeable and confident in discussing both classic and contemporary wine regions and producers.
A polished service professional capable of guiding service when needed.
Detail-oriented and organized, assisting with cellar upkeep and inventory management.
Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work across two floors.
Fluent in English; other languages are a plus.
Familiar with food safety standards (NYC Food Handlers Certificate preferred).
Direct mentorship from our Beverage Director and Head Sommelier .
