Job Description:
The Custodian I position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly facility for employees and visitors. This role supports department objectives by performing routine cleaning and sanitation tasks across assigned areas. The Custodian I follows established cleaning procedures and safety guidelines to ensure consistent quality standards. Through attention to detail and reliability, this position contributes to a well-maintained and efficient work environment.
Primary Duties
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Performs routine cleaning duties including floors, restrooms, offices, corridors, stairways, and common areas.
- Cleans and sanitizes surfaces using appropriate tools and cleaning materials to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
- Removes trash and debris and transports waste to designated disposal areas.
- Restocks cleaning and restroom supplies and maintains organized storage of materials and equipment.
- Operates basic cleaning equipment and follows proper procedures for use and maintenance.
- Identifies and reports maintenance or safety concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Follows all safety procedures and guidelines while handling cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Maintains assigned work areas in accordance with established cleanliness and quality standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a High School diploma or GED; 0+ years of custodial or facilities maintenance experience, or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Prior custodial or cleaning experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, tools, and safe handling of cleaning materials.
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain cleanliness standards.
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks on time.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain reliable attendance and work assigned schedules, including overtime when required.
Essential Mental and Physical Functions:
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques.
- Use of fine and gross motor skills for cleaning tasks and equipment operation.
- Ability to read and understand basic instructions, labels, and safety information.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
Work Environment:
- Perform all tasks on-site within manufacturing, office, or campus facilities.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, dust, chemical fumes, wet or humid conditions, and loud noise levels.
- Work in proximity to moving mechanical parts and vehicle traffic.
- Compliance with all applicable safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- This role may be classified as a Safety Sensitive Position, requiring heightened awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
