Summary
Under close supervision, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of Hays County buildings. The duties involve the performance of specific operations that include custodial and daily tasks and procedures. This position involves performing a variety of duties and has an immediate impact on the operation of the Building Maintenance Department. This position affects the operation of the building maintenance, which may include the well-being of the employees and citizens of Hays County.Responsibilities
  • Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies. Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Empties trash receptacles, disposes of trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
  • Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Assists in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
  • Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on the seasonal/project requirements.
  • Sanitize and disinfect surfaces in restrooms, common areas, and high-touch points.
  • May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. May report issues with vendors to supervisor.
  • Respond promptly to spills or accidents to ensure employee and visitor safety.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, County officials, and the general public.
  • Use proper PPE when required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
  • Any combination of experience or training may be substituted on a year for year basis.
  • Requires High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of custodial experience.
Other Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Texas Class C Drivers License.
