The Building Maintenance Worker, Plumber is responsible for performing skilled plumbing work and general maintenance to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of campus facilities. This position ensures that plumbing systems, fixtures, and equipment across the university are properly installed, maintained, and repaired in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and university policies.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems including water supply lines, waste disposal systems, fixtures, and appliances (e.g., sinks, toilets, showers, drinking fountains).
- Inspect and test plumbing systems for leaks, drainage, and other issues, and ensure compliance with local, state, and national plumbing codes.
- Respond to emergency plumbing calls and perform timely repairs to minimize disruption to university operations.
- Maintain and repair related building systems, including pumps, water heaters, backflow preventers, and sewer systems.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout of plumbing systems.
- Assist with general building maintenance tasks, including minor carpentry, painting, HVAC assistance, or electrical repairs as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on tasks.
- Ensure all work is performed safely and efficiently in accordance with university safety policies and OSHA standards.
Education
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational training or certification in plumbing preferred.
- Valid plumber's license or certification as required by state or local regulations.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair; experience in an institutional or university setting preferred.
- Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
