DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic III to join its Facilities Maintenance & Development/ Playground Safety/Day Use team.

The job duties include but are not limited to:

  • This individual will perform routine inspections, and preventive maintenance on playground equipment, skate parks, exercise equipment, soccer goals, basketball courts, tennis nets, and supports.
  • Installs playground equipment and components.
  • Operates vehicles to and from work sites.
  • Reports unsafe conditions and unsafe equipment.
  • May lead and train lower-level personnel.
  • Performs additional maintenance activities as required.
  • Operates hand tools and special equipment such as welding machines and cutting torches.
  • Prepares routine maintenance work orders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • This position is designated among essential personnel under the City of Houston's Emergency Management Policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS

There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. This position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices routines or techniques in a specific area or trade, which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

One year of experience in building or mechanical maintenance is required.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Must have a valid Texas driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

PREFERENCES

  • Applicants who can work Day, Evening, Night, Weekend, and Holiday shifts are highly preferred
