Job Summary The Head Barista is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the coffee bar, ensuring the highest standards of beverage quality, customer service, and cleanliness. This individual will serve as a role model and mentor for our barista team, sharing their expertise in coffee preparation and fostering a positive, efficient work environment. The ideal candidate has a deep passion for specialty coffee, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to creating an outstanding customer experience. Key Responsibilities Beverage Preparation & Quality Control:- Expertly prepare and serve a full menu of espresso-based and brewed coffee drinks to the highest standards.
- Maintain consistent drink quality through regular tasting (dialing in espresso, tasting drip coffee, etc.).
- Develop new seasonal drink recipes in collaboration with management.
- Uphold and enforce all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
- Lead by example on the floor, demonstrating exceptional customer service and technical skill.
- Train new and existing baristas on drink preparation, coffee knowledge, workflow, and customer service standards.
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to the barista team to encourage skill development and growth.
- Assist management in creating schedules and managing shift coverage.
- Greet every customer with a warm and friendly demeanor.
- Engage with customers to share knowledge about our coffee offerings and help them make selections.
- Efficiently handle customer inquiries, feedback, and concerns with professionalism and grace.
- Build relationships with regular customers to foster a strong sense of community.
- Assist with inventory management, including ordering milk, syrups, paper goods, and other supplies.
- Oversee daily opening and closing procedures, ensuring all tasks are completed correctly.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance on coffee equipment (espresso machine, grinders, brewers).
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system with accuracy and efficiency.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a barista, preferably in a specialty coffee environment.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience is highly preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of coffee origins, brew methods, and espresso extraction.
- Proven ability to dial in espresso and create high-quality latte art.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a calm and positive attitude.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and possess a strong work ethic.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Washington State Food Handler's Permit.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
