The Oxford Hills School District is seeking excellent candidates for the position of Head Custodian at Paris Elementary School located in South Paris, Maine and serves approximately 400 students from grades PreK-6.
Terms of Employment
Full Time year round position - Hourly rate from $21.59 - $24.99 per hour dependent on experience; position is under the Oxford Hills School District Head Custodians Contract which can be viewed here .

Qualifications:
- Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures.
- Experience using cleaning equipment, including but not limited to vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and scrubbers
- Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules.
- Communication skills ( written and oral)

Job Summary:
The Head Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within Oxford Hills School District facilities. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with the ability to perform a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks, operate cleaning equipment, and handle cleaning chemicals safely. The Head Custodian supports the District's mission by ensuring that all facilities are conducive to a positive learning and working environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cleaning and Maintenance:
- Performs routine and heavy cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors.
- Gathers and empties trash and recycling.
- Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
- Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
- Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions.
- Cleans fixtures and furniture.
- Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs.
- Performs routine maintenance activities.
- Equipment and Supplies:
- Operates cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners and floor buffers, safely and effectively.
- Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals according to instructions and safety guidelines.
- Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage.
- Manages inventory of cleaning supplies and does ordering of needed supplies.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Checks for and reports unsafe conditions in assigned areas/buildings.
- Follows District procedures and regulations for maintaining a safe and efficient school environment.
- Adheres to occupational hazards and safety rules.
- Support and Assistance:
- Supports the District's mission and goals.
- Assists in requisitioning cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Assists in requesting repairs.
- Removes snow and ice from walkways around the building and anywhere else as assigned by Assistant Facilities Director, or Facilities Director.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Facilities Director, or Facilities Director.
- Supervise custodial staff and perform annual reviews

- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and twist for extended periods.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions for long periods.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.

The Oxford Hills School District (MSAD 17) comprises the towns of Norway , South Paris , West Paris , Oxford , Waterford, Harrison , Hebron and Otisfield. MSAD 17 shares vocational resources and accepts students in its Oxford Hills Technical School programs from the RSU10 School District towns of Buckfield, Hartford and Sumner. Oxford Hills/Nezinscot Adult Education is located within the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
