Nashoba Valley Technical High School is seeking a Cafeteria Worker to join our caring and collaborative community of teachers, learners, and leaders and serve students from our district towns of Ayer, Chelmsford, Groton, Littleton, Pepperell, Shirley, Townsend, and Westford, Massachusetts.
Position Overview:
- This position is approx. 35 hours per week, 7:00am - 2:00pm Monday through Friday during the school year (182 days)
- Cafeteria Unit - Contractual Agreement outlines all working conditions.
GENERAL SUMMARY
Responsible for working with other cafeteria staff to prepare and serve all meals and clean up assigned areas.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.Assisting in the preparation of all elements of school meals, including performing set-up, cooking, wrapping and baking tasks.
2.Serving all meals, as instructed.
3.Cleaning kitchen work areas, utensils, and equipment.
4.Checking off student meal eligibility lists.
5.Preparing cash register for lunch service, calculating receipts in accordance with School procedures, and completing required paperwork. Please note: ability to use Heartland Mosaic Software is beneficial
6.Performing other related work as assigned.
7.Maintaining regular attendance and punctuality.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS. AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of, or ability to learn and apply, federal and Commonwealth of Massachusetts regulations applicable to storage, preparation and service of food in schools.
2.Knowledge of safe storage, preparation, and disposal methods applicable to food in schools.
3.Ability to lift up to 40 pounds of food-related products, supplies, equipment or utensils.
4.Ability to read and follow recipes and other directions.
5.Basic cooking, baking and other food preparation skills.
6.Ability to perform simple mathematical computations and conduct accurate cafeteria food purchase transactions.
7.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, and deal courteously with, administrators, staff, and students.
8.Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS ANDCERTIFICATIONSILICENSES
Requirements: Negative tuberculin test and/or any other test results required by law.
Highly Desirable: Diploma from an accredited secondary school or GED.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Seeing: Must be able to read recipes and other directions and measure ingredients.
Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively with administrators, staff and students concerning cafeteria functions.
Physical Activities: Must be able to lift heavy containers of food and other cafeteria-related items; must be able to carry items in cafeteria and place items in, and remove items from, ovens, refrigerators and freezers.
