ASTORIA SCHOOL DISTRICT 1CJOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: #396 Custodian 8 hrs Grades PK-2 AstorREPORTS TO: Head Custodian/Site AdministratorEVALUATED BY: Site AdministratorJOB SUMMARY:Under the general supervision of a Head Custodian, personally performs and supervises routine custodial, repair and cleaning work at an elementary school and does related work as required.QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION:High School Diploma or equivalent as required by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of EducationMust be 18 years of ageMust be able to pass a background checkPossess and maintain a valid First Aid CardAbility to adjust daily work hours at throughout the year in accordance with district needs as directed by the principal and supervisor (Summer and break hours)Maintain current standards regarding handling of blood borne pathogens, asbestos and hazardous chemicals

Knowledge of:Modern cleaning methods and the use, care and safety of cleaning materials and equipmentRequirements for maintaining school buildings and facilities in a safe, clean and orderly conditionMethods, materials, equipment and tools used in routine buildings and facilities maintenance workOperation of heating plant and equipment

Ability to:Lay out work and to estimate time, tools and materials neededDemonstrate knowledge of and expertise in the basic techniques of electrical layout and repair, basic plumbing, mechanics, maintenance, carpentry and facility maintenanceMaintain simple recordsAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructionsEstablish and maintain harmonious relationships with students, fellow employees and the general publicObtain and maintain an Oregon Driver's LicensePerform physical requirements which may include: Moderate to extensive degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting up to 100 lbsFrequent and prolonged standing, walking and bendingExposure to outdoor weather conditions of heat, cold and where ventilation may be inadequateMay require exposure to chemicals, dirt, paint, chalk, noise, odors and the possibility of electrical shockAbility to operate buffers, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, and other equipmentAbility to climb ladders, stretch and bend to perform cleaning, repairs, painting, cleaning roof, gutters and drainsPossible exposure to bodily fluids in cleaning due to student illness or injury

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Sees that the building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas, are neat, clean and free of offensive writing at all timesChecks daily to ensure that all exit doors are locked after the hours of building occupancyLower the flag(s) in the PMComplies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of all trash, rubbish, waste and chemicalsConfers with head custodian/principal and teaching staff regarding special custodial needsInspects building for fire, electrical and other safety hazardsReceives job requests for services and repairsPerforms the cleaning of walls, furniture, woodwork and other equipment and sees that floors are stripped and waxed periodicallyChecks on restrooms and replenishes suppliesDirects visitors and safeguards all school propertySees that rooms are set up for special events and needsParticipates in complete cleaning and routine maintenance during summerResponds to emergency situations, such as, water leaks, fires and snow removal. This duty may require adjustment to irregular or extended hours necessary to cope with the problemKnowledge of Astoria School District Policies and building proceduresRegular and acceptable attendance is requiredPerforms other duties as assigned
