Lead Groundskeeper - Full Time - Days

Position Summary:

Under the leadership of the Manager, Facilities Management, the Lead, Groundskeeper is an active member of the Facilities Management team that works to implement the department’s strategic vision, goals, philosophy and direction. This position supervises the maintenance of lawns, walks, trees, bushes, shrubs, plants and ornamental floral beds on CRHS grounds and properties. The Supervisor ensures that insecticides and fertilizers are applied as directed and according to manufacturers’ specifications and schedules. This position supervises carpentry, painting, equipment maintenance and trash removal work performed by the groundskeeping staff and maintains a file of MSDS sheets of all materials used by the department.

Basic Qualifications:

• Education:

Requires elementary school education. A high school diploma is preferred.

• Experience:

Requires a level of experience normally acquired with up to two years of progressively more responsible work, experience in landscaping and ground keeping.

• Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:

Requires certifications associates with the handling and application of professional fertilizers and pesticides. Requires a current valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Motor Vehicle Report required upon hire and reviewed annually.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Oversees the organizing and labeling of all grounds department items in accordance with OSHA guidance and ensures that MSDS are available on all materials used by the grounds keeping staff.
• Prepares work schedules outlining the tasks to be performed on the various hospital grounds to ensure a consistently neat and professional appearance on all properties and monitors work crews for compliance and performance.
• Observes and monitors the quantity and quality of work performed to ensure that the work volumes and quality conforms to established department standards.
• Oversees the grass cutting, sweeping, raking, and edging in order to provide a well-groomed appearance.
• Ensures that the grounds staff prunes and maintains landscaping shrubs, plants and ornamental floral beds.
• Supervises the analysis of soil condition and the application of appropriate fertilizer mixes to achieve best results for lawn, trees, plants and ornamental floral beds.
• Ensures that the grounds keeping staff provides a healthy environment for plant growth by controlling the pests, insects, and fungi that weaken plants and cause long-term damage.
• Oversees the removal and replacement of grass and plants and re-sowing of areas to create new arrangements to enhance the landscape beauty of CRHS properties.
• Supervises the use of contract labor to perform grounds related work on an on-going basis.
• Translates landscape designs into landscape settings.
• Ensures that insecticides are applied within CRHS following the established insecticide application program to maintain an insect-free environment as part of CRHS’s infection control program.
• Supervises the staff in performing basic carpentry and outside painting as required and requested.
• Ensures that all trash and debris is collected and disposed of property.
• Inspects, and oversees the maintenance and repair of all grounds equipment and ensures the equipment has been routinely serviced and is functioning properly.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current developments in safety standards, codes and departmental policies and procedures.
• Ensures the grounds department staff is courteous and has cooperative relations when interacting with hospital staff, patients and visitors.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
