The starting annual pay for this position is $39,299 to $46,235 depending on qualifications; full salary range is $39,299 to $62,503.
One candidate is needed to work a 3:00pm to 11:00pm, Monday through Friday shift.
This position performs routine and directed custodial work, and minor interior and exterior maintenance at municipal facilities. This position must work well with other Town employees, work independently, and demonstrate initiative. This position reports to, and receives work direction from, the Custodial Services Supervisor.
Due to the security clearance required to successfully perform these duties at all required locations, candidates must be able to pass a comprehensive background check at the time that a conditional offer of employment is made.
- Mop, scrub, renovate and renew floors and other surfaces, including but not limited to cleaning and extracting carpet flooring as well as waxing and restoring tile and terrazzo flooring.
- Clean and dust exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim and related furnishings; and polish furniture and furnishings.
- Move furniture and miscellaneous equipment as needed.
- Move, store or stock new supplies such as boxes of copying or computer paper.
- Sweep or shovel snow from steps and walks at building entrances and walkways.
- Collect all waste paper, recycle material and other debris and deposit in appropriate receptacles for pick-up.
- Lock and unlock doors to rooms and offices as needed.
- Clean and service drinking fountains, lavatories, toilets and rest rooms.
- Clean and service smoking urns and ashtrays.
- Wash and clean partitions, walls, window blinds and all interior glasses, including framed pictures, windows and door glasses.
- Report items that require repair to supervisor.
- Replace light bulbs on interior and exterior of building as needed.
- Work well with other custodial staff and Town employees.
- Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
- Use hazardous supplies in a manner which complies with applicable state and federal guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to physically perform manual work for extended periods of time.
- Skill and ability to operate general custodial equipment and properly use supplies.
- Ability to accept and follow instructions of supervisors and to complete assigned tasks in a reasonable length of time.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with Town staff.
- Must be aware of and practice good safety habits and effectively utilize all safety equipment provided for use by the department.
- Ability to read and understand warnings and direction on hazardous supplies.
- Ability to work weekends and evening hours when necessary and respond to emergencies, as needed.
- Knowledge of cleaning materials and practices.
- Skill to perform minor maintenance of buildings and grounds.
- Must have and maintain a valid State of Illinois Driver's License.
Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent. CMI certification preferred. Some work experience in the custodial field required; or other training or experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills or abilities or reflects an aptitude to perform this type of work.
