Maintenance Worker I
Position Summary: The Maintenance Worker I works under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and the Director of Maintenance. The position will report direct to the Maintenance Supervisor in performing basic maintenance work of the department and upon request will assist Maintenance Worker II as needed. The person occupying this position must have basic knowledge and experience in general maintenance work.
Essential Functions:
Inspects light fixtures; replacing ballast and light bulbs daily
Investigates electrical service problems and reports to Maintenance Supervisor
Identifies plumbing problems and repairs within professional competency
Changes filters in air handlers on a monthly basis
Performs minor mechanic work on small equipment
Performs other daily, weekly, monthly and yearly maintenance duties according to established departmental and equipment maintenance schedules as directed
Keep debris clear of building
Assist Maintenance Mechanic II as helper on various task
Occasionally assist maintenance worker at Juvenile Justice Center
Marginal Job Functions:
Occasionally moves equipment and furniture for county departments
Deliver paper products and other heavy office supply items
Other duties within field of competency and skill
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
Knowledge of building mechanical equipment
Basic electrical experience
Basic plumbing system experience
Good oral communication skills
Working Conditions:
Inside work is in close proximity to moving machinery and mechanical equipment
Exposure to electrical circuits and supply, danger of electrocution
Works with and is exposed to various chemicals used in mechanical and plumbing maintenance including water treatment chemicals, acids, and insecticides
Lifts heavy materials and equipment
Work requires travel during the day between building and facilities
Physical Demands: Work involves standing, walking, sitting, talking and listening. Work also involves lifting, reaching and carrying object with hands and arms. The work requires physical strength and dexterity. The position requires movement from one building to another often-transporting supplies, materials, tools or equipment utilizing hand trucks, other non-motorized assistance or the county truck.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
Minimum Experience/ Training: 6 months to 1-year basic maintenance experience
Must have a clean background and pass a background check.
Special Requirements: Valid Texas Drivers License
