POSITION OVERVIEWWe are currently hiring for a Bartender/Server hybrid position. This role is split between bartending and serving, with one shift per week required in each position. The ideal candidate is highly knowledgeable in both food and beverage, confident under pressure, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
You are warm, professional, and detail-oriented, equally comfortable mixing craft cocktails behind the bar or guiding a table through our dinner service. You execute consistently during both low-volume and peak service times while maintaining a calm and polished demeanor. Youre proactive, attentive, and committed to creating memorable guest experiences.
Candidates must be available to work at least one bartending shift and one serving shift per week and must be available Saturday and Sunday evenings to be considered.
There is potential for this role to evolve into a lead bartender or manager position for the right candidate, with increased responsibilities in bar leadership, inventory management, and training. This opportunity is ideal for someone seeking long-term growth within a small, values-driven company.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
- Work at least one bartending and one serving shift weekly; participate in cross-training and assist in either role as needed
- Prepare and serve cocktails according to company recipes with precision and consistency
- Maintain full knowledge of food, wine, cocktail, and beer menus, including ingredients, allergens, and preparation methods
- Present menus, explain offerings, and confidently make recommendations for pairings
- Set up, maintain, and break down both service areas; keep all workspaces stocked, sanitized, and organized throughout service
- Follow all local and state laws related to alcohol service; check IDs, monitor guest consumption
- Perform accurate POS transactions and handle guest payments
- Assist in restocking, inventory tracking, and ingredient prep (e.g., syrups, citrus, garnishes)
- Support FOH team by bussing, pre-bussing, and resetting tables during peak hours
- Complete all opening, side work, and closing duties in either role as assigned
- Safely and effectively use all equipment including CO tanks, dish machines, soda guns, blenders, and knives
- Ensure sanitation and food safety standards are met in accordance with city/state regulations
- Maintain emotional control and situational awareness in crowded, high-pressure environmentReceive and implement feedback from leadership; contribute to a team-oriented, professional culture
- Participate in regular training sessions and uphold service standards at all times
REQUIREMENTS Qualified candidates must possess the following characteristics and experience:
- Must be of legal age to prepare, sell, and serve alcoholic beverages in the City of Chicago
- BASSET certification and ANSI-accredited Food Handler certification
- Minimum 1 year experience bartending in an upscale-casual venue
- Comfortable working both roles interchangeably based on business needs
- Strong understanding of classic and modern cocktails, spirits, wine, and food pairings Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure
- Professional communication skills with guests and coworkers
- Physically able to stand and walk for extended periods; s afely lift and move heavy items, such as trays of food and drinks; move safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven, or slick surfaces
- Must have regular access to email and utilize the internet (or phone app) for scheduling, payroll, and internal communication
- Maintain composure in crowded or confined spaces with varying noise and temperature levels; excellent emotional control
- Available to work a variety of hours, days, and shifts, including weekends
- Ability to safely tolerate hands being exposed to liquids frequently, including water, cleaning solutions, alcohol, various juices, and other liquids
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Prior experience in upscale casual or fine dining
- At least 1 year experience serving in a full-service restaurant
- Passion for clean, nutrient-dense food and artisanal beverage programs
- WSET, sommelier certifications, or formal beverage training
- Experience training or mentoring other staff
COMPENSATION
- Tipped minimum wage for Chicago ($11.02/hour) plus tips

Work Environment/Physical Demands Summary
This job operates in a fast-paced restaurant environment and may require the employee to stand for long periods of time. There is regular exposure to food allergens, high-temperature cooking equipment, chemical cleaning products, and pest/insect control substances. The employee must also safely and properly use and store provided cleaning supplies each shift. The employee must also be comfortable operating a high-temperature commercial dishwashing machine. It is the employee's responsibility to maintain proper personal hygiene at all times, wear food protection gloves and hairnets, and consistently and efficiently wash hands to prevent contamination of foods and food contact surfaces.
The role requires the employee to regularly use various kitchen tools and equipment, including those that are sharp and/or heavy. The employee must be able to operate, maintain, and appropriately clean a kegerator, coolers, blenders, dishwasher, and other commercial kitchen and restaurant machinery, including any accompanying parts. Additionally, the employee must be able to safely and properly sanitize kitchen knives and other sharp and/or heavy food and drink preparation instruments when necessary.
The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of a restaurant with an open seating floor plan. The employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday as business needs arise. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and the employee will need to be capable of lifting at least 50 lbs. The employee must also have the ability to safely tolerate their hands being exposed to liquids frequently, including water, cleaning solutions, alcohol, various juices, and other liquids .
