Temporary Fairgrounds Maintenance Worker - position works as needed, non-benefited, no guarantee of hours

Job Summary:
This position provides after-hour security to fairground facility; performs basic cleaning to buildings; maintains grounds and landscaped areas and performs semi-skilled work in corrective maintenance to fairground buildings, equipment and grounds.

Essential Functions: This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job.
  • Provide after-hour security to fairground complex; secure windows, doors, gates; determine unauthorized people are out of complex; secure complex.
  • Provide assistance to facility users and prepare buildings and facilities for renters and users; setup, take down tables, chairs, bleachers, stages, drapery, panels, kitchen equipment, power panels and electric cords. Direct visitors to appropriate meeting area; assist them as needed.
  • Collect recreational vehicle park fees. Provide night security of grounds and buildings. Maintain records.
  • Perform corrective and preventative maintenance to fairground buildings and related property; such as: construct signs; repair and maintain plumbing systems and fixtures, water and drainage lines; repair doors and hardware; repair roof and drain systems; wash outside walls and windows; restock restrooms. Operate hand power tools appropriate to duty; perform basic maintenance and repair to equipment.
  • Perform basic cleaning of fairground buildings, which could include: clean, mop, strip, wax, and buff floors; shampoo carpets; wash windows, blinds, walls, ceilings, clean and disinfect restrooms, dust and clean furniture; refill supplies.
  • Provide a variety of grounds maintenance duties, such as: sweep, rake, litter, garbage and stall cleanup; spread bark mulch; repair wood and concrete areas; plant and prune.
  • Clean and maintain work shop area.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job. Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required, will be considered. However, the following is preferred:
  • One year progressively responsible work experience in building construction or building maintenance which affords work experience in security procedures, custodial and grounds maintenance and working with the public.
Knowledge of: Reasonable knowledge of building and complex security procedures, practices and methods; reasonable knowledge of building construction methods, principles, practices, equipment, and materials as applied to corrective building maintenance; reasonable knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, equipment and supplies used in custodial maintenance in an institution or on a large scale; reasonable knowledge of grounds maintenance; basic knowledge of Oregon Specialty Codes that govern building construction, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical work. Skill in: Safe operation of appropriate power tools and equipment. Ability to: Communicate effectively in oral and written forms; interpret and comply with written and oral instructions; estimate time and materials for individual projects and manage time efficiently; utilize problem identification and resolution techniques; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; establish and maintain records and reports; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, facility users and the public.

Required:
  • At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon drivers license.
  • Regular and consistent attendance

Background Investigation : While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass a criminal history background as part of a contingent offer of employment. Conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from employment. Driving Record: A current copy of your Court Print Driving Record must be attached to your application in order to be considered for this position. A Court Print Driving Record is obtained from the DMV and may take 5 - 7 days for delivery, longer for out-of-state. Finalist(s) for this position will be made an offer of employment, contingent upon review and approval of driving record. An unacceptable driving record for employment is defined in the Douglas County Driver Policy . Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen. Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy. To determine if physically qualified to perform the essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.
