Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and hospitality-driven Sommelier to join our team. The ideal candidate combines technical wine expertise with a warm and intuitive sense of guest service. This role involves knowledge in Italian-forward wine list, training staff, and guiding our guests through an exceptional dining experience with thoughtful beverage pairings and personal engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Actively lead table-side wine service with approachability, professionalism, and deep product knowledge, especially of Italian and domestic wines
Assist in maintaining and updating the wine list, with a focus on inventory accuracy, seasonal selections, and vintage integrity
Conduct staff training sessions on wine regions, producers, tasting techniques, and pairing philosophy, ensuring confident and consistent FOH knowledge
Monitor cellar organization, storage conditions, and using designated inventory systems
Collaborate with the Beverage Director to source and taste wines, build relationships with reps, and stay attuned to market trends
Drive wine sales by engaging guests with genuine recommendations, curated pairings, and thoughtful storytelling around producers and regions
Support floor operations during service as a polished and hands-on team member, helping to ensure smooth pacing, table coverage, and guest satisfaction
Assist with private dining and special event beverage planning as needed
Uphold Scopas standard of gracious, attentive hospitality and be a cultural leader on the floor
Requirements:
Proven sommelier or wine steward experience in a high-volume, upscale restaurant
Solid foundation in Italian wine and WSET Level 2+ or equivalent certification preferred
Exceptional communication, poise, and presence with both guests and team
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
A collaborative spirit with a desire to mentor and grow within the beverage program
Compensation DetailsCompensation: Hourly ($24.00 - $26.00) plus tips
