General Purpose: To provide safe and attractive school grounds where students can learn, play, and develop. To perform a variety of tasks in the care and maintenance of the grounds and athletic fields.This classification is distinguished from the custodial and maintenance classifications by the performance of grounds care.

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor and/or Building Administrator

Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent18 years of age or olderExcellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skillsValid Oregon Driver's LicenseMust pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screeningCompletion of required SafeSchools training

Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, staff and general public.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to work on school grounds and fields with a minimum of supervision.Knowledge of the operation of power equipment such as large and small mowers, light trucks, sprayers, hedge shears and provide maintenance of same.Ability and knowledge to establish and maintain the turf of lawns and athletic fields and to landscape.Knowledge of the application, storage and safe use of all chemicals.Knowledge of the common plant turf diseases and insect pests and methods used to control them.Familiar with handling of and disposal of hazardous materials, and safety requirements for working around asbestos and electrical equipment.Knowledge of irrigation systems and repairs.Perform physical requirements which may include: Requires moderate to extensive degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting up to 100 lbsRequires frequent and prolonged standing, walking and bendingRequires exposure to outdoor weather conditions of heat, cold and where ventilation may be inadequateMay require exposure to chemicals, dirt, paint, chalk, noise, odors, and the possibility of electrical shockRequires ability to operate tractors, mowers, dump truck, district vehicles, forklift, power tools, and etc.Requires ability to climb ladders, stretch, bend, and attain heightsFrequent standing, walking, bending and lifting

Ability to demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for students.Such alternative to the above requirements as the School Board or the Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):Care for all lawn areas including athletic fields by watering, mowing, seeding, fertilizing, and spraying as needed.Prepare athletic fields for appropriate activities as prescribed by responsible administrator/ supervisor.Care for hedges, shrubs and trees, including pruning, trimming, diseases and pest control.Plant seeds, bulbs and annuals as needed and provide care for them throughout their growing season.Respond to any maintenance emergency that arises (i.e., plumbing problems, broken windows, locks, doors, vandalism repairs, etc.)Maintain repair of equipment including responsibility for all grounds related equipment.Install fences, lay pipe, dig ditches, move bleachers, and haul rubbish.Assist with snow and ice removal from sidewalks, entryways and driveways and spread sand, salt or ashes to prevent slipping.Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff.Participate in in-service programs as assigned.Act as a friendly ambassador for the North Bend School District.Participate in Oregon IPM ProgramMaintain roofs and gutters (cleaning and inspecting)Maintain clean uncluttered work environmentPerform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem to be appropriate to the Administration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

WORKING CONDITIONS:Work is both indoors and outdoors, requiring physical effort in carrying out maintenance and repair work with frequent lifting of moderate to heavy objects. Employees may be exposed to power tools, heights, paint fumes, and other potentially hazardous situations for which appropriate safety practices may be required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:12 Months, 8 hrs/daySalary Range: $19.67/hr - $23.56/hr
