Job Description:
Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by performing custodial functions for University buildings and facilities. Primarily cleans academic and athletic buildings during shift.
Work shifts: 6:00am to 3:00pm, 4:00am to 12:00pm, and 12:00am to 8:00am may include weekend hours and required overtime.
Salary: $15.50/hour plus shift differential for 3rd shift
Essential Functions
Sweeps, mops, cleans windows, collects trash and recyclables, cleans bathroom appliances, moves furniture, and transports items to collection points for assigned buildings
Collects and removes trash, litter, and recycling from campus facilities
Sets up, maintains, and takes down items related to University events
As qualified, operates buffers, vacuum cleaners, and other custodial equipment
Performs preventive maintenance on assigned tools and equipment
Upon successfully completing training and upon approval, drives University vehicles to include pickup trucks, golf carts, and light utility vehicles
Removes snow and ice from steps, roads, walkways around assigned buildings and elsewhere on campus
Assists with cleaning, buffing, or shampooing floors and carpets
Assists with grounds keeping tasks to include mowing lawns, and pruning or trimming trees and vegetation
Performs associated Facilities Operations maintenance work as qualified
Performs all tasks in a safe manner in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
Works cooperatively with others as part of a team or independently with minimal supervision
Other Functions
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor or team lead.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent or two years of related experience; vocational training a plus
Valid driver's license preferred
Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check and physical exam
Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 50 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
Some overtime/weekend/evening hours may be required
Environmental Conditions
Indoor and outdoor work
High level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
