This is a supervisory position of the daytime custodial staff and custodial student workers. Primary responsibility is to work with a team in providing a high level of cleanliness for all campus.

Required Education

  • High school graduate or equivalent experience and education.

Required Experience

  • Five to seven years in custodial work, including three years in supervising a culturally diverse staff.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions

  • Schedules custodial staff for night shift areas of responsibility.
  • Provides custodial training for new employees and student employees for night shifts.
  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of all employees to ensure all working procedures are being completed efficiently.
  • Interviewing, Hiring, and Supervising Student Employees.
  • Completes and processes all new hire paperwork.
  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of all employees.
  • Work on the computer using Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Evaluates products, requisitions, and issues supplies as needed.
  • Maintains supply and equipment inventory by keeping all files current and up to date.
  • Makes recommendations on matters of discipline, promotions, overtime, performance evaluations, and other personnel functions.
  • Responsible for electronic timekeeping as it applies to the scope of this position.
  • Performs other duties as required by the supervisor.
  • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the custodial warehouse and closets.
  • Regular, punctual attendance is required by the supervisor based on department needs.

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Must have the necessary skills to do on-the-job training for staff employees and student workers.
  • Strong organization, leadership, and project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt and lead through change.

Mental Demands

  • Ability to follow oral/written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relations with supervisors, fellow workers, and students.
  • Must be able to communicate in English with the ability to relay instructions from the supervisor to student workers.
  • Ability to complete tasks efficiently within a designated time frame.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate strength using equipment/machinery as listed above.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, grasp, and climb.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Walk and stand on your feet for long period.

Visual Demands

  • Computer monitor and reading.

Environment

  • Subject to hazards of machinery, equipment, and exposure to chemicals.
  • Conditions that could affect the skin or respiratory systems - fumes, odors, dust, or poor ventilation.
  • At times, performing tasks in high heat or cold conditions.

Technologies

  • Proficient in Google Apps, Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.

Compensation

  • Grade 8: $21.44 to $24.66 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package .
