LOCATION: Central Office and Pender High School
PAY GRADE: 57
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Principal at Pender High School
WORK WEEK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday
WORK HOURS: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM; occasional evenings and weekends
MONTHS/YR: 12
POSITION PURPOSE
Perform entry level work associated with general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry and other building systems
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions from supervisor or senior maintenance workers
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff
- Possess considerable knowledge of hand and power tools, materials and methods used in general maintenance work
- Knowledge of general carpentry and repair
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Able to work with other crafts when needed
- Ability to exercise caution and care in judgement
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and complete tasks
- Possess effective communication skills
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Related experience preferred
- Valid NC Driver’s License
- On the job training offered
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Troubleshoot issues to determine necessary repairs
- Complete work orders for scheduled maintenance tasks and special projects
- Plan repair work using building’s blueprints or equipment manual as needed
- Perform general repairs that do not require specialized technician. Examples may include repairing drywall, painting and repairing doors and other building fixtures, change light bulbs, lamps, 2’ & 4’ ceiling tiles
- Replace broken floor tiles (VCT)
- Perform routine maintenance on building systems
- Clean and assists with upkeep of the facilities
- Order supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance
- Deliver and pick up school furniture
- Perform minor building repairs
- Work without direct supervision
- Perform other related duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to work outdoors in weather conditions that range from hot and humid to cold
- Ability to work in air-conditioned buildings
- Ability to work off ladders, bend
- Ability to work at various heights (low to very high)
- Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects up to 50 pounds
- Ability to pull and/or push 100 pounds
- Ability to frequently kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, bend or crawl into awkward spaces
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to work in office and public school environments, and come into direct contact with staff and students
- Ability to work in air conditioned buildings
- Ability to work outdoors in cold, hot and humid conditions
- Travel is required to schools and Central Services offices
