Job Details Bottega Napa Valley is seeking an experienced Lead Sommelier to join our team. Nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, Bottega restaurant brings the warmth and richness of Italian cuisine to Californias wine country. We are seeking a knowledgeable, charismatic, and service-driven Lead Sommelier to oversee and elevate our wine program. The role is ideal for someone with a deep understanding of wine, a natural talent for hospitality, and the leadership skills to inspire and train a team. The Sommelier will curate our wine list, manage inventory, lead service and engage guests with thoughtful wine recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of the wine program including purchasing, inventory, storage, and staff education.
  • Curate and maintain an exceptional wine list that complements the culinary vision of the restaurant.
  • Provide in-depth wine service and guidance to guests, offering personalized wine service and enhancing the dining experience.
  • Train front-of-house staff on wine knowledge, service standards, and pairing techniques.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team on pairing menus, seasonal updates, and special events.
  • Manage wine cellar organization and ensure proper wine storage practices.
  • Monitor wine sales, costs, and work with management to meet revenue and margin goals.
  • Represent the restaurant at industry events, tastings, and with distributors.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 35 years of experience as a sommelier in a fine-dining or upscale restaurant.
  • Formal wine education or certification (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of major wine regions, varietals, vintages, and producers.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Passion for hospitality, guest engagement, and team mentorship.
  • Ability to lift and move wine cases and stand for extended periods.
