Custodian Day- Bus Driver

10.0 Hours per day, 4 days per week, 12 Months per year

Salary Range:
$19.39 to $22.08 per hour

Job Goal :
Under general direction, responsible for performing maintenance repairs, landscaping, and custodial functions required to maintain site facilities and the physical environment in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition, as required for the activities held at the site; provide safe and efficient transportation for District students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented with other duties as assigned by the Supervisor which does not conflict with the Master Agreement between NCSD and NCSSO.
  1. Provide site support in the basic maintenance of construction trades including carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, roofing, drywall, and flooring and concrete:
  1. GROUNDS: Keep facility grounds, and all premises including landscaped areas, sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times. Perform landscaping duties, such as weeding; sprinkler, valve, and valve box repair; tree and hedge pruning; timer programming; general lawn care. Perform maintenance needs for sports areas, including baseball, softball, football, tennis, basketball, etc. Pressure-wash sidewalks, courtyards, trash cans, and blacktop areas. Perform snow and ice removal in designated areas as needed, utilizing plows, blowers, and shovels.
  2. ELECTRICAL: Conduct electrical work such as safely changing bulbs, replacing electrical components and fixtures for like kind, changing diffusers, replacing electrical covers on switches and receptacles, cleaning light fixtures, and programming lighting timers. Test and repair emergency lights. Ensure that panels, switchgear, and other electrical equipment are properly labeled and free of excess dust and debris. Conduct visual inspections of electrical components for evidence of moisture, overheating, missing pieces, and evidence of arcing or physical damage. Knowledge of the proper use of a lock-out tag-out kit.
  3. PLUMBING: Clean and clear drains, P-traps, clay traps, science separators, and grease interceptors. Visually check pipes for corrosion and leaks. Perform plumbing fixture repair and replacement. Maintain caulking around sinks, toilets, tubs, and showers. Repair PVC plumbing up to 1 ½”, using proper techniques.
  4. ROOFING: Keep roof, gutters and drains free of build-up of debris. Complete minor repairs of various roofing types. Responsible for inspections of penetrations, skylights, flashings, caps, and seams.
  5. PAINTING: Perform patching, sanding, texturing, and painting on multiple surfaces, including drywall, metal, stucco, concrete, and wood. Complete small wall repairs of 4 sq ft or less.
  6. CARPENTRY : Move, repair, assemble or disassemble furniture, equipment, lockers, and other items as needed. Repair or replace like kind commercial door hardware, cabinetry, various types of molding, and other building finishes
  7. FLOORING: Disinfect, clean, and maintain gym floors, VCT, HVT, carpet, tile, concrete, stages, and other floor coverings.
  1. Complete preventative maintenance and/or inspections on mechanical systems, bleachers, ice makers, motors, and electrical and plumbing systems on a routine basis and maintain accurate logs.
  2. Inspect sites for safety issues weekly and note needed repairs; establish a schedule for conducting necessary repairs and maintenance.
  3. Contact your supervisor and MOSS (Maintenance, Operations, Safety, and Security) for concerns requiring immediate assistance and submit detailed work orders for assistance from district maintenance staff.
  4. Order and inventory maintenance and custodial supplies; ensure all cleaning agents and maintenance equipment are utilized per label instructions and prescribed safety precautions and procedures. Maintain and update MSDS and SDS information and store in a location that all staff can access during work hours.
  5. Ensure all appropriate health precautions are taken to maintain the safety of students, school employees, custodians, and visitors.
  6. Follow the NCSD single-point entry protocol; ensure all gates, doors, rooms, and buildings are secure during the school day, and after use.
  7. Coordinate with administration regarding use of school facilities for various activities.
  8. Maintain, clean, and organize storage and equipment areas.
  9. Other maintenance needs include, but are not limited to: ceiling tiles, door stops, corner guards, door seals, and bathroom partitions; hanging of banners, flags, posters, and boards; servicing and replacing soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and similar containers; moving furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  10. Assume custodial duties as listed on the night custodian job description, as needed. (See night custodian job description)
  11. Assist district Maintenance, Operations, Safety, and Security Department, as needed.
  12. Obey all traffic laws.
  13. Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  14. Maintain student discipline on the bus.
  15. Keep assigned bus clean, to include all vision mirrors, windows, and the inside of the bus.
  16. Adhere to route, stops, and schedule as determined by the immediate supervisor.
  17. Report all accidents and complete the required reports.
  18. Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or safety problems.
  19. Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-District school trips.
  20. Transport only authorized students and District Employees.
  21. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of assigned bus.
  22. Enforce District bus safety rules.
  23. Perform other related duties and functions as assigned.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the custodial and construction trade.
  2. Knowledge of requirements for maintaining a school facility in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  3. Knowledge of maintenance, custodial safety, and health procedures.
  4. Ability to demonstrate good judgment and common sense.
  5. Ability to make accurate measurements and calculations.
  6. Ability to use time and material in an effective, responsible manner.
  7. Ability to communicate and follow directions orally and in writing.
  8. Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor including lifting or moving loads up to 50 lbs. or more.
  9. Ability to climb ladders to complete various tasks and perform roof work.
  10. Ability to locate and shut off utilities including water, electric and propane.
  11. Knowledge and understanding of the proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  12. Must be computer literate with knowledge of reporting tools, such as Microsoft Word and Google Sheets.
  13. Ability to pass required medical examinations.
  14. Ability to learn relevant regulations and rules.
  15. Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents, and the general public.
  16. Familiar with and understands FERPA, and HIPAA, and other confidentiality guidelines in the educational setting.
  17. Familiar with and assists with the implementation of all district policies and administrative regulations as related to specific assignments.
  18. Recognizes and reports hazards, and conforms to safety standards as prescribed.
  19. Recognizes and notifies administrators of unauthorized persons on campus, and/or of issues that require immediate attention.
  20. Familiar with district and site emergency/crisis response procedures, plans and drills (e.g. fire drills, bomb threats, lock-downs, etc.).
Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Current physical examination as required by CDL
  3. Completion of District/State training course
Licenses and Certifications:
  1. Valid Nevada Commercial Driver License with Passenger & School Bus endorsements or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
  2. Must achieve a passing score on the Day Custodian/Maintenance Test administered by the district
Screening and Compliance:
  1. Ability to pass State and Federal criminal background check
  2. Compliance with NCSD Motor Carrier Part 382 Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program
Successful candidate must complete a thorough background check and pass mandatory pre-employment drug & alcohol testing.
